Workshop Instructor / Assessor

Overview of Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Workshop Instructor / Assessor to support, plan and develop learning programmes and deliver and assess meaningful learning and to ensure a successful learner and employer journey, whilst maintaining the required administrative and legislative systems and standards. Where appropriately qualified, the postholder will also contribute to Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) activities to ensure assessment practice meets awarding‑body, company and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong teaching skills and excellent communication abilities. The role involves delivering engaging lessons, providing personalised support, and fostering a positive learning environment to inspire confidence and curiosity in learners.

Responsibilities:

Instructor Subject Specialism

Essential Specialisms to include - Manual Turning, Manual Milling, Hand Fitting & Bench Skills (marking out, filing, drilling, tapping, assembly)

Desirable Specialisms - CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Welding & Fabrication (MIG/TIG/MMA) and Electrical / Electronics.

  • Deliver structured tutoring sessions focused on subject specialism and practical applications tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Develop customised lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and special educational requirements.
  • Assess learners' progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Utilise effective communication techniques to explain complex concepts in an accessible manner.
  • Foster an inclusive, motivating, and supportive environment that encourages active participation and curiosity.
  • Collaborate with programme coordinators to track learner development and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievements for each learner.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in sector and incorporate innovative teaching methods into sessions.
  • Plan learning programmes, observe, assess, provide feedback, and complete documentation.
  • Monitor Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Prevent and Equal Opportunities.
  • Provide constructive progress reviews and clear action plans.
  • Support Functional Skills delivery where required.
  • Conduct sampling of assessments in line with IQA strategy and awarding body requirements.
  • Support assessors to develop consistent, high quality assessment practice.
  • Provide developmental feedback to assessors to improve standardisation and compliance.
  • Participate in or lead standardisation meetings.
  • Support preparation for external quality assurance (EQA/EV) visits.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • QTLS status
  • Proven experience in tutoring or teaching.
  • Strong sector experience to include concepts, tools, and applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly and engagingly.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting learners' growth.
  • Organised with the ability to plan lessons effectively and manage multiple learners simultaneously.

Desirable:

  • A1 Assessor Award / TAQA Level 3 (CAVA) or equivalent
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PETLS)
  • Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) or equivalent
  • Relevant sector qualification at Level 3 or above
  • GCSE English & Maths grade C/4 or above
  • IT literate
