Maintenance/Applications Engineer Level 3

The Vigilance Group comprises of three machine tool sector related divisions, all housed in a 25,000sq. ft. selfcontained building in Fishponds, Bristol. The Group was created to provide a unique, 'one stop shop' for UK, European & US engineering manufacturers and engineering sector educators, looking to acquire high-quality, reliable and competitively-priced new and used machine tools and machine shop equipment, as well as a first-class safety equipment for machine tools. In addition to 'selling' machinery to customers, the Group also 'buys' used machines and equipment from customers too, through its Used Machinery Division, Machine Tool Sales Online, (MTSO). MTSO is now the No 2 in the UK market by volume, for the supply of quality used machinery MACH Machine Tools, The Group's own brand-new machine tool supplier, is a leading supplier of high-quality manual and DynaPath controlled CNC machine tools to precision component manufacturers and Educational Establishments, across the UK, Europe and as of 2025, the USA too. Finally, The Group also has a Safety Division for the machine tool sector, Vigilance Engineering Safety Products, who specialise in the supply and installation of machine tool safety windows, own brand coolant mist extractors and speciality power chuck grease. Additionally, The Group has invested in a range of integrated after-sales services that underscore its new and used machine tool and equipment operations: these include - servicing and maintenance, technical and applications support, operator and programmer training, and spare and replacement parts.

Full Description of Role

Employed by MACH Machine Tools, an reporting to our Applications Manager, this is a hugely varied role, but will include working alongside our skilled engineers such that you will be competent across all areas of our Machine Tool businesses.

As part of this role, you will work alongside our Engineers within our Service and Applications Teams covering both our New & Used stock of machine tools. You'll help to receive and position our stock of incoming machine tools and equipment, be taught how to power up & evaluate the condition of machinery upon arrival. You'll help us to prepare machinery ready for customer demonstrations. That will include fault finding and repairs where necessary. We'll teach you to programme and demonstrate machinery to our visiting customers. You'll help us to create a video library and a backup file for each machine prior to dispatch. You'll assist with the dispatch of all sold items too. Customer site visits are a big part of our Technical Services Department weekly tasks and as such you'll be taken to site with our engineers to perform tasks such as decommissioning, installation, 1st line servicing and PPM service, plus assist on site applications with control system training, once internally trained to do so. Once you've been shown how to laisse and communicate with our customers, you'll also be given the opportunity to help us man our national exhibition stands if required. Of course, being a small but growing Company, this role is a varied and flexible one, so other duties and opportunities will present themselves as we grow.

Hourly Rate/ Annual Salary: £7.55 per hour/ £15,704

Total hours per week: 40:00

Working week: Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm.

Qualifications Required:

For 16 year olds 4 GCSEs - Math's, English & Science plus one other at Grade 5-9 essential. (or equivalent)

For A Level Students: 4 GCSEs - Math's, English & Science plus one other at Grade 5-9 essential. PLUS: 2 x C Level grades ideally in Math's and a Technical subject (or equivalent)

Future Prospects:

Once your apprenticeship has been successfully completed, you'll join either the Maintenance or Applications Team as a skilled engineer.

Beyond your apprenticeship, continuation to further education for higher qualifications is also offered for the right candidates. Both of our Technical Departments are expected to grow in the future and more senior positions will be created as we do so and we always prefer to promote internally where we can. Additionally, we'd like an Apprentice that has just qualified to mentor the next Apprentices that are coming through our program.

Training:

Once the basic training has been completed in our training partner's MACH Machine Tool equipped facility, in Yate Bristol, your on the job training will commence at our Fishponds facility for the remainder of your apprenticeship, with day release for your college work also being provided.
