Why I Chose an Engineering Apprenticeship – And Why You Should Too

Hi, I'm Logan, I'm 17, and I'm currently training as a Machining Technician at McBraida. I'm really enjoying my apprenticeship and if you're thinking about whether it's right for you, I'd love to share my experience.

It Started With a Passion

I've always had a passion for making things and learning how things work, so I've always had an interest in engineering. I enjoyed DT and engineering at school, and I have a strong interest in 3D printing — that's what really led me to decide to do my apprenticeship.

Hands On Experience

I think this training is leading me to develop real hands-on production skills while also giving me the theory behind the job. What's great is that it provides experience with multiple different machines, which is much better than a sole classroom environment.

The Best of Both Worlds

This training is really good because it combines theory and practical learning, with the majority of your college week spent on practical training. It means you can gain hands-on experience that's ready to use when you're back at your company.

My Advice to You

I like how I'm gaining skills in a sector I'm very passionate about, and I would recommend that anyone who has a strong passion for engineering should consider an engineering apprenticeship.

Logan trains as a Machining Technician with Swatpro at BEMA's dedicated engineering training centre in Bristol. If you want to find out more, get in touch by calling 01454 321356 or email.
