National Apprenticeship Week: Meet Brent — Training Today, Shaping Tomorrow
For
National Apprenticeship Week, discover how Veqter, BEMA and Swatpro are
partnering to build the next generation of engineers — and consider an
apprenticeship if you want hands-on training, expert mentorship and clear
career progression.
Meet Brent, a 22-year-old machining technician apprentice at Veqter. After
leaving hospitality to follow his passion for engineering, he’s gaining
hands-on skills through an apprenticeship that’s fast-tracking his career — no
student debt, real workplace experience and strong mentor support.
VEQTER
Ltd, a University of Bristol spin-out, uses proprietary techniques to measure,
analyse and reduce residual stress in engineering components, improving
performance and reliability.
Brent’s
apprenticeship training is delivered by Swatpro trainers at BEMA’s dedicated
training centre in Bristol, an engineering training centre set up to tackle the
shortage of qualified engineers and help recruit and train apprentices and the
workforce for some of the top South West engineering companies.
Why Brent chose the apprenticeship:
“I’ve
always had a strong interest in engineering. After working in hospitality, I
decided to make a career change to pursue something more aligned with my
interests and to establish a long-term career for my future.”
What
the training is delivering:
“This training will lead to a lot of valuable
hands on experience, which really helps me learn more effectively and in less
time, rather than focusing purely on theory.”
“The
apprenticeship combines practical work with classroom learning, allowing each
to reinforce the other.”
On what an apprenticeship in engineering can
offer, Brent says:
“With the support of a company that is
invested in developing your skills, you can learn without taking on student
loan debt or juggling a separate job alongside your studies.”
“I’m
really enjoying the opportunity to grow my skills in a field I’m passionate
about, and I’d encourage anyone interested in engineering to consider the
apprenticeship route.”
